- Processor: ARM7DTMI processor at 16.8Mhz in GBA mode, Z80-like processor at 8.4Mhz in GBC mode
- System RAM: 32KB + 256KB
- BIOS: On-die BIOS. Displays the "GAME BOY" logo on bootup, allows booting over the link cable, or starts a normal cartridge. The BIOS also provides some "API" for GBA games
- Graphics processor: Proprietary - tile + sprite based with bitmap modes. Can rotozoom tiles and sprites
- Display: 240x160 TFT display - 15-bit RGB colour
- Connectors: 3.5mm headphone jack, GBA cartridge slot (also accepts DMG/GBC games), link cable connector
- GBA card: Up to 32MB (256Mbit) of ROM addressable (more possible with mapper logic) with several optional save methods/RTC/rumble/etc
- Sound: Stereo with built in speakers or headphone output, GBC sound channels + 2 PCM channels
- Power: 3V battery power (2xAA). Battery low indicator LED.
- Input: 4-way digital d-pad with 6 action keys
