Games -> Planet Tetris Attack
Last modified on Mon, 4th Feb 2008 at 21:02 UTC by zippletWhat is Planet Tetris Attack?
PTA (Planet Tetris Attack) is a clone of the popular SNES puzzle game, Tetris Attack. This clone focuses on accuracy and authenticity - it should play as close to the original game as possible although there will always be slight differences.
It features original sound effects, remixed music from the original games, endless and VS gameplay, and will eventually feature internet play.
The game engine is being written by me (Zipplet), and Tomatzu has spent a long time producing the remixed music aswell as helping me to improve the accuracy of the clone (I'm a TA newbie, whereas he is experienced at the game!). Tomatzu is also working on some new ideas which I can't yet reveal
For those who want/need to know, the game is being written using my cross platform multimedia library (LightX) so it should be cross platform eventually. I test with an older PC (500mhz celeron) too so it should perform flawlessly on any PC even older ones.

I hope to try to put some more work into this game tonight after work (grr, work until 10PM...), mostly bug fixes and checking the engine over. I'll keep updates here.

Bug fixes today. So far I've fixed the issue where you could raise the stack during chains and panels falling, which was wrong. I'll update this once I'm done with my bug fixes.

More bugs fixed. A primitive explosion animation is present - and the stack now rises manually with a key to force it to rise. Some bugs are still present but a lot have been fixed.

Bugs now fixed in the rewritten engine. Scorecards/fanfares/proper chain counting all working, I'm going to post a video once I have finished the animation for panels popping (currently they just dissapear like in the previous videos).

Parts of the engine are being rewritten to improve accuracy and authenticity! After me and tomatzu carefully studied the original games using slowdown, we discovered some details that need to be implemented into this game for it to feel really authentic. The aim of this clone is to feel like the original game - fluid controls, and all the excitement, so this is necessary.

The soundtrack for the basic set of characters is complete - courtesy of Tomatzu who works on the soundtrack for this game! It's mostly remixes of TA/PDP music, and it sounds fantastic!
